Bogota surged to a 20-10 lead after eight minutes and the Buccaneers were never headed in posting a 66-47 victory over Rutherford in the championship game of the Bergen Holiday Boys Basketball Classic played on the campus of Dwight-Englewood. Four Buccaneers reached double figures as Bogota recorded its fourth "W" in five outings.
Matt Kittner, who launched three successful field goals from outside the three-point perimeter, topped all scorers when he pumped 17 points through the iron. Peter Lynch tickled the twine with 16 points, Andre Beghyn tossed 14 into the basket and Jimmy Lynch netted in the well-balanced Buccaneers' scoring attack.
In girls' basketball, Bogota lost to Union Hill 51-24 in the title game of the Hillers' Tournament. Janell Carrasco netted a team-high dozen points with Wendy Cruz and Ashley Ramirez chipping in with six points apiece.

Published in Town News week of 12/05/05

River Dell Girls' Varsity Volleyball team completefd a fabulous season, with a 20 -2 record to claim a share of the BCSL - American Division crown. The Varsity suad was very close knit and worked well together on and off the court. The team will be losing four seniors this year, Patty Carnevale, Alyssa Montone, Brittany Barbarise and Katie Luft who all contributed a great deal of hard work, passion, and spirit .Two outstanding players, Julia Reilly and Alyssa May,that were the backbone of the 2005 Varsity team have been named as next years' captains.. Next year's Varsity team looks just as promising with seven strong upcoming seniors, most who are primping up for next year by participating in club teams til then. River Dell Volleyball's goal- an undefeated season-just may become a reality in 2006!

Maisel chosen Town News Bowler of the Year

River Dell's Jared Maisel has been chosen the Town News Bowler of the Year by the staff of newjerseybowling.com. As a member of the Town News Bowling All Stars, Maisel did not maintain the highest average but he tossed many strikes in the "Game of Life" that are not recorded on score sheets.

Working hard between his junior and senior campaigns, Maisel, the team captain, upped his average 32 pins as he completed his final season with a 179 average and was named to the BCSL All Star First Team.

"He is one of the finest young men I have coached over 36 years," said John Stoehs, River Dell's veteran coach. "I am very proud of his efforts and accomplishments. He is a wonderful role model for the younger bowlers."

Maisel has served as the Golden Hawks' boys' tennis captain as a junior and senior while standing out in the academic classrooms. A member of the National Honor Society and National Math Honor Society, he was sports editor of River Dell's school paper, the Redellion, as for two years before becoming editor-in-chief this year.

"Jared is well-liked by his peers and teachers who respect his persistence, intelligence and ethical approach while enjoying his good humor," stated Phil Castora, a guidance counselor at River Dell. " He is a talented student, leader and wonderful role model for his peers.

Community service is another area in which Maisel is an all-star. He has served as the Fund Raising Chairman of the Temple Shalom Youth Group for the last three years. During the summer of 2003, he participated in a Habitat for Humanity program in Texas, helping to build houses for low income workers while running a camp program for their kids. He has assisted at the CORD Senior Citizen Dance as well as the Oradell Lions Club Spaghetti Dinner.

Maisel has even found the time to work since he was 14. He has been a soccer official for the River Dell Soccer Association and served as referee for the Oradell Basketball Association. He has been a tennis instructor for the Ramapo Day Camp and had been employed by Great Foods and American Eagle. He is now working at Coldstone Ice Cream in Westwood.

Maisel will continue his academic career at Lehigh University.
