Golden Hawks squeak out 48-47 victory on hardwood

River Dell edged Ramapo 48-47 in a non-league boys hoops encounter on February 2 as the Golden Hawks improved to 8-9. P.J. Belthoff flipped a game-high 17 points through the twine while Matt Connolly chipped in with a 16-point effort. On January 24, the Golden Hawks rallied to defeat Tenafly 40-34 in a BCSL - American Division confrontation. A 11-4 run in the third quarter put River Dell in front for good as Tom May netted a game-high dozen points. B.J. Belthoff chipped in with a 10-point effort while Brian Fowler added eight.
On the mat, River Dell edged Hackensack 37-36 after deadlocking at 36-36. The Golden Hawks earned the decisive team point on the basis of the criteria of having won more bouts. Dave Dellatorre (103), Brian Bakalian (140), Nick Pallotta (215) and Tim Curran (285) produced pins.
River Dell jumped out to a 17-5 lead after eight minutes and defeated Westwood 47-26 in a American Division girls' basketball game on January 22. Kristen Walters deposited a game-high 17 points into the basket, five of which were successful free throws. Jackie Osterlof tallied seven with Jackie Curran and Emily Ciccatelli adding six apiece.
Matt Cedzidlo and Zachary Rassam netted goals with Scott Wiggins credited with assists on both while Doug Coursen picked up an assist but River Dell dropped a 4-2 verdict to DePaul on the ice rink.

Golden Hawks rise from the ashes to topple Huskies

Blanked in the opening quarter, River Dell rallied to a 38-33 victory over Dumont in a BCSL - American Division boys basketball game on January 4. The Golden Hawks pulled even at 25-25 entering the final eight minutes when they went on a 13-8 run to up their record to 5-2 despite the fact that no one reached double figures. Matt Connolly and Tom May tallied team-high seven points with P.J. Belthoff and Tom Schick netting six each while Tom Belthoff and Brian Fowler added five-point efforts.
Kristen Walters hit the hoop with a team-high 20 points, eight of which came at the charity stripe, but River Dell dropped a 48-34 verdict to Bergenfield in a non-league girls basketball encounter on January 5.
On the mat, River Dell pinned New Milford 69-9 on January 7. Nick Bruni (119), Kieran Keelan (125), Jimmy Cariddi (130), Matt Tracey (135), Dave Reconetti (189) and Nick Pallotta (215) won by falls with Tracey recording the fastest at 32 seconds and Reconetti decking his foe at 33 seconds.
In swimming, the combined River Dell/New Milford squad swept Harrison, defeating the Blue Tide boys 53-41 and romping to a 74-20 victory in the girls competition. The quartet of Nicshant Patel, Raymond Chu, Steven Davidson and Pat Brunner splashed to victory in the opening 200-medley relay. In the girls medley relay, the foursome of Alyssa Verhoff, Mary Mantell, Jackie White and Bethany Lanzendoen also touched first.
